about

The Lexington-Henderson County Farmers Market began as a vision of the Henderson County Chamber of Commerce Leadership Class of 2019. The class worked hard to raise funds and build momentum, but in 2020 the project was halted due to COVID-19 and rising construction costs.

In the years that followed, the University of Tennessee Extension made an effort to revive the project and even secured grant funding. Unfortunately, timing and circumstances prevented the pieces from fully coming together, and the project was once again placed on hold.

The vision was reignited by the Leadership Class of 2024, who adopted the Farmers Market as their class project and pushed it forward with renewed energy. With the support of the Tennessee Department of Agriculture, Henderson County Government, and the City of Lexington, land was secured and additional grant funding was obtained. The class led fundraising efforts to help bring the project to life.

This market is truly a community effort. Major support was provided by the Board of the Farm Bureau of Henderson County as the naming sponsor, along with valuable in-kind contributions from TLM Associates. Barger Construction also played a key role in the project and generously donated the restroom facilities.

Thanks to the dedication of multiple Leadership classes, partners, and sponsors, what began as an idea has become a lasting investment in Henderson County’s future.
